mentalfloss.com — To Americans, Doctor Who is known as a cult science fiction TV series from the British Broadcasting Corporation. In Britain, it’s an institution, regarded with reverence. It originally ran for 26 years (from 1963 to 1989) and returned in 2005, becoming one of Britain’s top-rated shows.

1) I lusted over Lalla Ward as a teen/adult, but NO WAY I would want her coming back as Romana NOW. I want a hottie, regenerated Romana, that doesn't step on the Doc's toes, but sure as heck isn't his second banana. An uber-brainy babe that makes fans forget about cute, but by comparison, lame, Rose Tyler. I'm also not happy how they make a big dramatic soap opera moments about separating from Rose. The Doc was always relatively stoic about tossing off companions. In fact, I'd argue the last one he was REALLY attached to, Sarah Jane, he dumped once he started really feeling attached to her. Everyone else was "Well, goodbye, don't let the TARDIS's door hit your ass on the way out..."2) It would be a shame if they brought back the TL's in a LAME (deus ex machina) way. Also, Tennant has agreed to only one more year. I don't think there would be a dramatic payoff with a future actor. As much as I like the new Dr. Who, I really dislike the way it seems more action adventure and emo, rather than wit and dispassionate resolve. Dr. Who had as an iconic a style as James Bond.

The 1976 serial did star Tom Baker. It was called "The Deadly Assassin". And yes, the Time Lord's central repository of all knowledge is a giant computer encompassing its own cyberspace through the "APC Net" known as "The Matrix". The 4th Doctor fought for his life inside The Matrix in that serial. The Wachowskis are not original. The episode of "Smallville" that begins with an assassin aiming a rifle at candidate Johnathan Kent to ultimately reveal Lois Lane behind the trigger is also the exact beginning of "The Deadly Assassin." People will say that both copy (or pay homage) to the original "The Manchurian Candidate" but the camera shots are different from how it is done in that film. That "Smallville" episode is paying homage to "The Deadly Assassin."

...but a lot of the actors used in the original Star Wars films also have been on Doctor Who.The Hyperspace imagery used by Star Wars was directly borrowed from the images of The Vortex used in the opening of Doctor Who during the end of Jon Pertwee's run as well as the majority of Tom Baker's (who was The Doctor during the making of Star Wars).

I thought the new BSG was a continuation of the original series, too, because the Galactica in the show was the one that fought the original Cylons? I honestly know nothing about the in-universe history, though. In either case, dugg because I'm a Who-loving Hoosier too :-D
