cracked.com — What's great, and terrible, about Wikipedia is that anyone can edit it. Anyone--including the person the Wikipedia entry is about. This becomes obvious when looking at the pages of certain washed-up celebrities, and the results are equal parts hilarious and sad.

I'm pretty sure this speaks to the reason why wikipedia isn't accepted as reference in the academic world. Biased anonymous editing.
