first it should have been Pink Floyd's The Wall. and it should have been number 1. This album influenced every theme band from then on and continues to do so. For evidence of this check out Coheed & Cambria's series of story albums.
I don't understand how Spice Girls are on the list and no Van Halen, Springsteen, or even God himself, Eric Clapton. Nice to see the Strokes got a mention though.
These lists are wrong. I've never run into anything as wildly disagreed upon as musical taste. You make these lists to piss people off. I hate how they hate on pink floyd, and like that they list the beatles influence entirely to the pop scene.
@BashStraight Outta Compton is a great album but it was aping Public Enemy who were already making aggressive hip-hop music. NWA took Public Enemy's music, got rid of the PE's activism and thoughtfulness and filled the gap with sensationalizing violence and chest thumping. This is not to say NWA is without merrit, their music is interesting and hilarious but they are no Public Enemy.
What really pisses me off is that they don't say anything bad about any of the albums from all different genres (rap, punk, raggae, rockabilly, contemporary pop, grunge, etc.) but when they touch upon the BEST SELLING ALBUM OF ALL TIME (DSotM) they say without it there wouldn't be nearly as much prog (progressive rock) "if only..."WHAT THE HELL! they act like they enjoy EVERY album on the list except the prog one. That is completely impossible.

The list is for influence, positive or negative. In the spice girls case, it was negative.

You always could trace all music back to a caveman banging on a drum, but doing that would be stupid wouldn't it?
