consciousearth.blogspot.com— Looks like Exxon-Mobile had a part in rejecting a sizable donation by the producers of An Inconvenient Truth to public schools nationwide.

"I'm still waiting for Al Gore to explain to us how Mars and Jupiter are experiencing the same global warming that we are."They aren't.It seems a lot of Digg users are allergic to science.
This is not necessarily the case. If cars got more miles to the gallon due to state regulation, people may very well drive even more due to the decreased cost of doing so. So what is gained is lost through a change of incentives. This is precisely the type of unintended consequences of government policies that economics can inform us about.Worse, regulation like this raises the cost of doing business, making it more difficult for small competitors in the in the auto industry to emerge and survive. This results in lowered competition, and increasing the size of a few corporations that can afford to pay for the regulations. This results in declining quality and increasing prices for the consumer. So no benefit, increased fleecing of the consumer, and a net loss to the people's liberty. And this is only a portion of the ill-effect such government programs cause. Economics reveals all of this as obvious, and so much more. There's so much to learn. But I can only show you the link. You're the one that has to click through it ;)
What I would suggest is the following. Why not give the movie away for free on iTunes. By pass the NSTA teachers and let the students download it onto their computers or video enabled iPods. Al Gore is on the board of directors of Apple, I'm sure he can work something out with Steve Jobs. All Apple has to do is foot the bill for storage and download bandwidth. If Paramount isn't happy about giving away the movie for free to the public at large, then restrict it to people who qualify as students. This eliminates the cost of producing and distributing DVDs.My 2 cents,
every year in Northern Alaska. You have Inuit villages that have to move further inland because the coastlines are melting. Yeah Global Warming doesn't exist even when it affects our own citizens in the US.
@muyosoRe: The national post. The simple phrase in black and white that they printed sells GW as accurate."Even in the past century, the correlation is poor; the planet actually cooled between 1940 and 1980, when human emissions of CO2 were rising at the fastest rate in our history."If you take out the weasel words, and finish the story, it looks something like this."In the past century the planet cooled between 1940 and 1980, when human emissions of CO2 were rising at the fastest rate in our history. This period was immediately followed by the warmest temperatures ever recorded in our history."The entire article is full of exceptions. Exception and reasonable doubt are more then enough to sway any jury. However, this isn't a trial. A few exceptions in the face of mountains of evidence have no merit. There will always be localized phenomenons. The science of global warming is one of trends. The article does nothing to refute the facts. Only bring up exceptions to be elevated to the status of proof. Which it is not. When I read "Scientists who actually work in the field", I laugh. The Global Warming project is the single largest peer-reviewed research in the history of science. Just about all of the scientists who work in the field have weighed their opinion. The few others not in the study seek support in the form of grants, where it is popular money to be in the opposition, and that is the only basis for their thesis. Grant money, and not scientific truth. The opponents to Global Warming are not conducting science, they are conducting a PR campaign period. It is a thin as the smokey veil that kept cigarettes healthy for so long. Here's an interesting fact for you. The same proponent of cigarettes in the face of health concerns is now the 'expert' and leading figure head of the anti-global warming campaign. He switched his field of study from human health to climatologist, as soon as the money stopped coming from big tobacco and started coming from Exxon.S. Fred Singer has not published a peer reviewed paper in over a decade. He has been funded amounts of 65k and 10k from Exxon Mobile. In any interview, debate, about global warming with him, his arguments are always 'i think, i think' you really should listen to him speak, he is a textbook case for deniability.Every major scientific association in the world endorses the results from Global Warming studies. Sprinkled individuals (including cracker jack scienticions, and pundits) whose work or comments on global warming is not associated with any accredited group of scientific study are the only opposition. I can count on my hands and toes, the number of scienticions and denialists opposed to global warming. There are thousands upon thousands of respected, accredited and authoritative scientists in support of Global WarmingAnything that has to be said about global warming has been said. It is real, all opposition are nothing more then bottom feeders.
"the claim that al gore claimed to have invented the net has a credibility problem. But like most con gibberish, if you repeat a urban legend enough it become true. I am a member of the NSTA and emailed my disappointment in their decision. This is the autoresponse that I got.Dear Colleague:Thank you for your recent e-mail expressing your opinion about the National Science Teacher Association’s decision in regard to the DVD “An Inconvenient Truth.” We value each and every comment we have received from our members and friends.First and foremost, we want to ensure that you have the most current and accurate information about the issue. Ms. Laurie David, producer of AIT, asked NSTA to distribute 50,000 copies of the movie to its members. The NSTA Board of Directors stood by its 2001 NSTA policy prohibiting endorsements and decided not to mass distribute the DVD to members without their consent or request because it would constitute an endorsement. As you will see in the letter that NSTA sent to Ms. David on Thursday, November 30, 2006 (<a class="user" href="http://www.nsta.org/main/pdfs/20061130LetterToLaurieDavid.pdf)">http://www.nsta.org/main/pdfs/20061130LetterToLaurieDavid.pdf)</a> we provided her with several options to publicize the availability of the DVD to both our members and the wider universe of science educators worldwide via our communication channels. We also invited Mr. Gore to participate at the NSTA National Conference in March. This information and more is available on our website at www.nsta.org. We encourage you to read these documents.Sincerely,Linda FroschauerPresident 2006-2007National Science Teachers AssociationGerald WheelerExecutive DirectorNational Science Teachers Association

Ridiculous. Everyone should see it. It should be shown on schools. It also should be mandatory for politicians.
