latteier.com — I built a potato battery out of 500 pounds of potatoes. It powered a small sound system. I installed the battery and sound system in the back of a U-Haul truck and drove it around town inviting people to enter the truck and take a listen.

Nice.5v at 4mA.That like, what, powers 4 LED's?This, folks, is the reason why Potatoes are not used as duracell replacements. You'd need probably thousands or millions to produce anything usable.I've got some Panasonic Suncream solarcells that produce 27mA @ 2.7v. Thats right, two of these things, measuring less then 2.5x3cm produce more power then 500lb of potatoes.Maybe if he could power a boombox with some serious sub power, driving around with the "THUD-THUD. THUD-THUD. THUD-THUD", I'd think it was cool, but this is just lame.

But if he'd done that then people would have said 'why did he bother slicing up that many potatos...he could have just stick the copper and zinc in whole potatos'

At the very least, it's practical.
