thedailygreen.com— New large-scale projects are revolutionizing the U.S. energy sector, using sunlight, wind, waves and even trash, rather than oil, coal or nuclear power.

Yea petroleum based chemicals might not produce a ton of green house gases, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're all that great for the environment either. I'd venture to guess that majority of our oil needs can be attributed to the gas tanks of our cars and trucks. And while natural renewable energy production would be great for our plant. I can't see anything supplanting coal. It's cheaper and we already have plenty.
THIS IS ALL NONSENSE.Provocative statement I know. But these technologies, while worthy and good, are going to only make the merest dent in the energy problem. We need to stop mucking about and realise that only radical, next gen solutions are going to work. Luckily some people have the balls to put two fingers up to what science thinks it knows best, to 'common sense', and to the 'You can't do that' crowd.Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the future: http://www.orionproject.org - As courageous a bunch of folks as you're ever likely to meet.Yes this stuff is real. Yes, it's running now. Yes it works. Yes respectable scientists from mainstream universities are behind it. Yes big oil want to shut them down. No you won't hear about it in the MSM just yet. But it's happening, thank goodness.
the downside is still small, think of how much garbage goes into land fills everyday, and we won't ever even come close to running out of landfill space (whats that lady that says we could fit thousands of years of garbage in a 100 yard deep 30x30mile pit (as far as the US goes at least)think of how much space spent fuel rods take up?think of how much we could reduce that even with those new recycling rod methods
lol mark... all those synthetic materials you are talking about can be made with hemp..... oh and the end products would be superior to those made with crude oil...... we have the means, we have the technology.... we just need to get rid of the ignorance and then we can move forward
@jsmithers: Unless they show us their working devices they are full of s**t. And don't give me that conspiracy crap! If they had something that worked and wanted the world to know about it they would just publish their invention and send it out to as much people as possible. Try keeping that a secret!
