They did say 3rd some apps may be distributed though Apple.I actually think this is a good idea. 3rd party apps are the main reason for crashes on smart phones, but nearly all the blame for crashes goes to the phone manufacturer and give the phone a bad rap.Keep unapproved apps of the iPhone will make it a more stable phone and a better end user experience for the average user.
@uownedgeIt's not that I hate Apple or am a Microsoft sycophant. I wanted to make the comment I made because I'm really rather getting tired of the Digg users' obsession with Apple. There is no reasonable way I can deny that Apple are a fantastic firm with a hell of a lot to offer, but the way people keep jumping on every little thing they do with wanton abandon really annoys me. It is hype and nothing more than a masturbatory fantasy for geeks. There are phones all over the place which can do what the iPhone can do. That's why everyone keeps talking about the touch screen and how brilliant it is. It's the only thing that's actually new. The day after the iPone was announced the DIGG front page was nothing but iPhone articles and even Ron Gilbert - creator of Monkey Island and SCUMM, one of my actual heroes - suddenly posted it on the front page of his blog after months of silence (because he figured he had nothing to say up 'till then). All of a sudden he's claiming Apple are offering him the first taste of the future. I really don't like it.In terms of tangible, consumer items Apple are very good at selling their innovations (the fact that they used Jonathan Ive is surely confirmation about their concern with fashion and trend) but that's all they can come up with. Basically they're trinkets and they need the hype to convince people they're bigger than they actually are. Apple does not have a heavy presence (by any stretch of the imagination) in the actual IT industry in terms of writing software and creating innovative architectures. Unfortunately for DIGG users, Microsoft does.
I have not seen anything on this yet - how easy is the interface to use while driving? my blackberry is dead easy to use: hold down the #2 and it calls home - how much easier can this interface be?
It's a touch screen so no tactile feedback, period. Good luck trying to drive with this thing in one hand and the wheel in the other. There will be idiots out there who will try and subsequently wreck or cause one. This isn't a business device. I don't care how glowing the review was about the onscreen keyboard. Does Mr. Ihnatko really believe this line of bull he's feeding us about it being the best keyboard he has ever used? Are you kidding me? As I said there is no tactile feedback, period. I have an IPAQ 4700 with a 4 inch screen now. It has an onscreen keyboard with over sized keys. Sorry, it's not the same as typing on a real keyboard. So yes this has been done before and failed. This part alone will kill it for business. I doubt the consumers who text will find it "the best experience ever" either.
