Its not just you trust me...2005 called they want their tutorials back. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if in the next release of PS they introduced a filter called 'grungify' or something.But to be fair, it wasn't really Carson that introduced the style.
It's already cliche if you ask me. Look at how many times these tutorials have been on the front page, as others have already noted.It's hard coming up with your own ideas, so most graphic designers just jump on whatever bandwagon everyone else is jumping on.

The entire grungy, paint splatter look is going out of style soon, if not currently fading. Soon these design techniques will look amateur and corny.
