latimesblogs.latimes.com — My brand new iPhone slipped! -- from about three feet, and it hit the sidewalk. Apple's design gurus had miscalculated -- one fall and the screen shattered across the top corner. The only way to replace a cracked iPhone screen is to buy a whole new phone.

"I have two filemaker databases on my iPhone and can do all of my scheduling and invoicing right there with my clients. I have instant access to all of my clients' system and software information and full access to four IMAP email accounts. When I get home to my desktop, everything has been magically synched."Congrats - you just described a smartphone circa 2004. Welcome to the new millennium.

Usually that means something completely out of your control, like bird crap or a tornado

Buried for made up FUD by some apple hater. He probably drove his car over it to get that type of damage.

I drop my blackberry all the time. You know what it does? Scratches then keeps on working. Though for me I care more about the function of the phone than the looks... not a very apple approach.

I think this was worthy of a news article. If one of the most expensive phones around has a glass jaw then I need to know before I waste my money on buying one. Phones often slip when being taken out of pockets, maybe it doesn't happen all the time but if it happens enough that you know someone who has at some point dropped their phone then you know that they should be built to withstand such a fall. Apple are obviously making goods that can't withstand the rigours of the environment in which they are meant to work. I have previously dropped my sony ericsson from far greater heights onto tarmac and I still have it to use. I shall not be buying an iphone.
