I already have a fairly new, powerful PC. If I want to try Vista, i simply go and purchase it. If I want to try any of the miriad Linux distros, I simply download and install. If I want to try OSX, I have to shell out for a new machine, even though the actual hardware is barely any different to the expensive machine I already own. Apple likes to mock PCs in it's ads, but it doesn't exactly make a compelling case for a current PC user to switch. These ads seem to bolster the ego of those who already own Macs, at the expense of that of the PC users who could be switching to their products.
The 'Stuffed' commercial bothers me. I just installed Windows, and between that and my Mac, the Mac has more useless software. Sherlock, iWeb, iMovie, iDvd, iCal- they're all iCrap. Stores like Best Buy and Circuit City install all of that trial software, not Microsoft.
Apple is so far off the pulse of a consumer it pains the eyes. I own apple products, as well as, PC/Microsoft products. How can a commercial that doesn't touch on anything you do well and only your competitors products flaws make anyone want to buy your product. You certainly aren't being effective or enticing, seeing as how most mac buyers are "converters". The converters have been dealing with windows for years and already know the flaws. If telling someone you are going to a more robust OS is going to make you need new hardware big deal. Upgrading a machine every say 5 years isn't a shocker. Maybe I'm forced to buy a new vid card OK? Thatd be better than say illegally using osx86 on my pc or i dunno buying a whole new machine since mac os's only run on an overpriced intel based machine. if somehow this makes you elite then im lost. recap upgrade a machine for a new os called vista or buy a whole new machine to use apple's os. how is that any better? these commercials suck. someone at apple should be fired for this horrid marketing, and a replacement person should be focusing on people who create media to sell machines to since a work machine is usually used for things like macromedia (adobes) suite of developer products and not gaming and general browsing. people who use a machine as a tool rather than a multimedia device at home.
"more pet websites?"Ha! Funee. Meanwhile, I do run Vista on my MBP in Parallels so I can support my users. Y'know what's cool, besides making the pet web sites? Yeah, I don't have to install third party software to ssh into my servers... or basically any other UNIX thing I might want/need to do. Oh yeah, and all my OS X software, even the freeware, is 10 times better than anything similar running on Windows, except the cross-platform stuff. Luckily, I don't need a Windows box for gaming, I work for a living. Vista IS pretty though. And I'm happy that they are trying to make Windows more secure.
OK, Bill O'Reilly, you might want to get your "facts" right:"Fact: The average Mac user will never be able to figure out how to upgrade their RAM or Harddrive."Your "average" commodity PC user can't either. What's your point?"Fact: Most tech savvy people can't upgrade a Macs RAM or Harddrive without detailed and complex instructions diagramming the inner workings of badly designed iMacs/Macbooks."Maybe if you're a dumb ass, in which case, you're probably not really "tech savvy"."Fact: The RAM and Hard drive is pretty much the only thing you CAN upgrade on a Mac."Over generalize much? Dell Optiplex GX620 USFF? How about any other small form factor desktop without card slots? Notebooks? You may have heard, but probably not, based on your so-called "facts", Apple makes a tower computer with slots & drive bays. You're also clearly unaware of the many third party upgrades to various Mac models available over the years."Fact: Macs cost more than PCs"Hmmm... *cough*Alienware*cough*. Depends on your vendor and your configuration, doesn't it?"So, if you're going to "upgrade" a Mac, it usually means buying a new one."There comes a time when it no longer makes economical sense to further upgrade a given system. If you start out with a cheap piece of s**t it takes longer to get to that point. If you're talking about a barebones case built to swap out motherboards and power supplies, well then you're comparing Apples to oranges, so to speak. You're argument fails."When Windows PCs break down (And they do break down, especially in educational environments), it's pretty catastrophic.""Fact: Microsoft LEGALLY cannot add the type of software to their OS that Apple can because of Anti-monopoly suits that have been filed in the past."Oooh! Wait, and that matters in what way?Your credibility in this argument is right up there with your apparent hero's, Bill O'Reilly. That is to say, kaput. Though some of what you say is true, many of your assertions are generalizations which don't hold true for all cases. Besides, everyone knows running Linux on dead badgers is cost prohibitive due to the need for additional fans for cooling and stink removal. Plus, the maggots tend to introduce a lot of bugs.
The Apple Ads are getting down right offensive. The 'upgrade' ad showing PC as a patient, and Apple guy insulting him - that was disgusting.Insulting a patient, a sick person, even a pretend PC sick person, that is just uncool.Like making fun of cancer - it is really not that funny of a topic. The 'Fat PC' - another insulting ad. A lot of people in the USA suffer greatly from the disease of obesity. The Apple Fat PC ad could easily be mistaken as an insult to obese people.Apple needs to work on it's comedy routine, and remove negativism and hate out of their ads.
