ecogeek.org — In a carbon-conscious world, passenger flight is difficult to rationalize. But we've got to get from point A to point B. Right now, there is no alternative to traditional heavier-than-air travel...yet! Airships have the potential to be more efficient than airplanes, cars, and even passenger trains and barges.

But...if these new zeppelins become a fact of life then how are we supposed to know if we've accidentally slipped into an alternate reality? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Zeppeli ...

With the looming crisis in helium supply, recently referred to as an essential non-renewable resource, I don't see how these can be a success. Without massive amounts of helium (to either provide lift or encapsulate hydrogen), they won't get very far. The price of helium is already seriously impacting party planning businesses and they probably use less helium, than a dirigible, in a year. This sounds great, but unless safe alternative methods of lifting are found, I don't see how these will be able to be cost effective.

I'm as anxious as you are. I've been dreaming about airship travel ever since I first heard about it when I was 12. The beauty of flying one is what I really love to look at and say "Amazing!" I hate it how people think that its a waste of time, but really should they want to sit and rot in a 6 hour trip is there choice. With no windows to look out from if ur in the middle of the plane unless u want to look out from the side windows. Having to want to dodge the other person's head in the way of the 10" window. Where as in an airship like this u can stand up and walk around. Have a drink at the bar or watch the scenery from up above. This is the real comfort of flying, not sitting and doing nothing, but standing up and watching what flying has taken itself to. From a small glider as the Wrights Flyer to an enormous airship the one from Aeroscraft. Glourious!

Yet trains have to stop in between places just for refueling and hazards can always be in front of a track and a train wouldn't have enough time to stop before hitting that hazard.
