Apple should sell the iPhone 2.0's when most customer's 2-year contracts expire.

That's a valid point. 3G phones always report higher power usage, so in a device like the iPhone it could be a critical factor delaying their release. That said, perhaps battery technology has advanced a little more since it's release. :p

I'm waiting for Macworld 2008 and even then, this might not be cleared up.

Obviously the iPhone will get updates eventually, and one of them is likely to add 3G. Seeing the new completion from other manufacturers is good, like the iPhone only with 5mp and 3x optical zoom and "dvd quality video". Oh I hate the term DVD quality video.

We'll get the iPhone when hell freezes over. And looking at the weather network, I don't see Toronto getting that cold in the near future. I honestly don't think we're going to get the iPhone anytime soon. Since Rogers is the only GSM network (FIdo, of course, being owned by Rogers), they can take their sweet ass time negotiating with Apple. It's not like Apple can go to Telus or Bell. Do yourself a favour and just buy an iPhone and unlock it.

3g should not really be that much of an issue. there is no more energy being used in 3g than in wifi. combining that with the new broadcom chipsets should alleviate any worries. apple may not even publicize the release of a 3g iphone. apple seems to have a magical power over everybody (see at&t revenue shares). it is within the realm of possibility that it could include the fcc

I do not think that word means what you think it means, my friend.

Do you honestly think Canada is going to get a 3G iPhone before the US? I'm afraid most of your points are based on speculation friend... and I hate speculation. Even if it was 3G we would undoubtedly get raped outrageous Rogers data rates so really I don't see any reason to be happy..
