It is entirely possible two cheap webcam camera sensors would be cheaper or easier to implement with a smaller form factor compared with implementing a moving part. It would also allow for a higher megapixel still image camera at the same cost, and would let them keep the second gen iPhone design more consistent with the original which would seem to follow their iPod strategy. I could totally see two cameras happening.
Actually, Apple's one of the few companies that "classically" releases a product right alongside the announcement, or within a short period afterward. (Delays are possible, of course.)They might not always do it, but Apple's known for their tight-lipped secrecy and exploding out with new products, rather than crying far and wide years in advance.
I got mine in Feb. I will be feeling your pain. Hopefully Apple will offer a trade up program. I'd go for that, otherwise they are not getting any new money from me. I can live with edge.
Here's why I say that. I was testing a business-class VoIP phone service via tethered cell phones and wireless air cards for the purpose of offering a demo to customers without worrying about firewall setting and whatnot on network that I am infamiliar with. With Sprint the service worked perfect with the tethered phone (Moto Q Music) and air card. With Verizon the service worked perfect with the tethered phone (Moto Q Original) and the air card. With AT&T the voice quality stuttered with the air card, and stuttered then dropped with the tethered phone (HTC Mogul). Bandwidth speed tests showed that AT&T was slower by the other 2 providers by about 40% both up and down. AT&T's 3G network also doens't have near the coverage areas of Sprint or Verizon. For a business user like me, the 3G speed IS very important. Hence the iPhone fails, for now.

If jobs announces the 3G iphone has the 2100band then yes... if not I guess you're screwed (because japan only operates in 2100 right?)

Announcing a product is not the same as launching it! The title is misleading as it is suggesting, the iphone 3g will be available in June. Read this for some more thoughts: http://www.risottosblog.com/2008/04/18/3g-iphone-a ...

While I wholeheartedly agree, he's probably implying putting a device like in a kinetic watch into the iPhone. This is what I mean:http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-kinetic-watches.h ...
