madpenguin.org — Mad Penguin is running a review on SUSE Linux 10.1, and includes info on the latest XGL/Compiz 3D desktop running on the popular distribution. Screenshots are included, as well as a Flash animation of the installer. Info on setting up multimedia support is included also. A good read.

I haven't used Dapper yet, but I did use Breezy, and I thought SuSe was way more polished. The only upside I saw to Breezy was that it was a lighter install than SuSe 10.0, but I haven't noticed any noticeable performance differences. I thought SuSe really won with the easy installer, driver support, overall configuration, and I haven't seen anything that compares to Yast if you don't mind some easy installs. I just wish that the Yast mirrors had more up to date packages, but the same could probably be said for many packet managers.

What does Apple think about that desktop background? It looks like a mirror image of one of the osX backgrounds.

SuSE is for more current computers. I would use Ubuntu or something other than SuSE. I have run SuSE 8.2 on a 233mhz Pentium1 mmx with a lot of lag in the OS but it ran fine.

I tried SuSE 10.1 a few days ago and compared to SuSE 9 Pro, it's a giant step forward. But, I'll stay with Ubuntu. apt-get kicks Yast's ass! Sorry.
