joystiq.com — The USB-equipped X-plorer guitar that ships with the just-released Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360 works with Windows XP and Vista right out of the box. Yup, it even works with the freeware Guitar Hero clone Frets on Fire. Mac OS X was something of a mixed bag -- the controller was recognized immediately, but wasn't recognized as an input device.

I've been trying to figure this one out, since I've been dying to play some co-op with my friends, but they all have the PS2 version, and I don't feel like dropping 60 bucks on a second wired guitar (at least not immediatly.)

I was in the store yesterday and finally got to try this Guitar Hero thing. Being a professional musician, I have to say I sucked! It seemed to me to be easier to play a real guitar than that thing.....maybe some of you should try it. Heheheheheee!

Anyone who's looking into this, anyone found any of the Fan-made songs for FOF? The website is like "just search" but they're nowhere to be found, and the other sites (keyboards on fire) aren't loading for me. I love sites where they intentionally bury anything of importance 5 levels deep and then scream "SEARCH!!!" at you when the inevitable question comes up...

found something at TPB (no thx google)seriously, why do this, is it that the songs are included in the RAR?was also hoping to play "I will survive" by Cake (it's not in the pack, doh)

Wish there was some way I could hook up a real guitar to Guitar Hero 2. It would be so much easier to actually play the song than to hit the silly buttons on the frets that don't make any musical sense at all...

Sorry to contradict you, but if I'm not mistaken - aren't all models 95055 and 95065?It just seems that the 55's are getting more troubles than the 56's.

how is that a "mixed bag"? it should detect every device right away anyway, even if it doesn't know what it is

MAC OS X version working fine now, with a few tweaks. Ive posted a tutorial:<a class="user" href="http://digg.com/apple/TUTORIAL_Install_FRETS_ON_FIRE_Guitar_Hero_II_Clone_on_your_Mac">http://digg.com/apple/TUTORIAL_Install_FRETS_ON_FI ...</a>

Only because the developers DONT OWN A SINGLE MAC and simply ported the Unix/Linux version to OS X. Not bad, and I got it working they just f**ked up a bit on a few files (one is a FONT file they f**ked up). Kudos to the Frets On Fire team.By the way, on identical hardware, runs smoother in OS X than on Vista or XP with 2gb of ram.
