hmmm... their comparing 1080p hdmi and 1080p/i component, with a game that runs in 720p and thus is upscalled to fit those resolutions... yeah thats acurate!
...One speaker for each of your seven ears?We only have two channel *hearing*, why would anyone want more than two channel audio? Sure, our ears can work out whether sound comes from front, back etc. through various phase effects, but there isn't a phase effect in the world that can't be emulated with some pre-processing hardware and a good pair of headphones.
wtf is up with ppl diggin' down comments like, "Man I wish they would quiet this thing down. I would buy one and sell my classic on ebay if if they did. The DVD drive sounds like a jet engine?"that's 100% true; and it's not like you went off on a rant or anything (:P).damn, digg suxz now. :
@mombof"When I switched my cablebox/computer/ps3 from component to hdmi. I notice a drastic improvement in color. Also there is one less conversion for the video to go through with hdmi on an lcd tv."There are clearly huge differences between the quality of component connections on various devices out there. I have a component capable DVD player which looks like crap on my HD projection system. The picture looks dark and washed out. Calibration helps but it still looks bad compared with a DVD playing on my 360 via component. I bought a replacement upscaling DVD player with component and HDMI and on that there is no noticible difference between the component and HDMI connections and it looks the same as the 360 too.I've said it before that component looks very good and that HDMI doesn't make any difference on my 70" front projection HDTV and got dugg to hell but that doesn't make it any less true. HDMI is nice (although a 7m cable costs serious money) but it doesn't substantially improve video performance. The scaling of the 1080p signal to fit whatever the native resolution of your LCD is will have more of an impact on the perceived quality of the image than HDMI versus component.
@stuckGame consoles, although they have the best home movie-watching to date, also play games. There's a shock! 7.1 uncompressed audio has two generated channels of sound in many movies. That's true. However, for games the advantage is clear.@SEMWJust because you have two ears, doesn't mean you have "two channel" hearing. Go to a music store, and listen. You'll hear music in front of you, behind you, to your left, to your right...that wouldn't be possible with "two channel" hearing.
I was so tempted to trade up and get the elite. The noise factor being one of those reasons. I guess I'll wait till the next gen of the elite to consider purchasing. Great article.
This is one of the saddest excuses of journalism I have seen in a while."it felt like about the same ammount of heat"COME ON! Get an infared camera and find out! They aren't too expensive. You can often rent them from scientific supply companies.A pathetic article. engadget, I am disappointed. As a sid enote, I love my 360 and will not part with its lovely color.
