Really nice list. Most free fonts are pretty ordinary, but there's some really contemporary and well-designed typefaces in this list.

No, they would actually use the original typeface that was designed with more than three weights. These are rip-offs. I would maybe use one as a display type for an obscure job, but it wouldn't go in my portfolio

Actually, Helvetica was based from an existing typeface, made in the late 1800's. Akzidenz Grotesk, for those who care. Helvetica Neue ftw
