ecosalon.com — Composting isn't just for food, silly! You'll be surprised at all the strange, random junk you can toss in the compost bucket. Don't draw the line at peach pits and coffee grounds - start chucking the following items into that bucket and watch your garbage bill go down while you create top-drawer dirt (and help the planet, of course).

I like to burn my bills first, then I take the ashes and put them in. That way you get twice the satisfaction!

Rat cleanings? No thanks. This is a good list if you want to attract rodents, with all the dairy and dried blood. Shoes are no good to compost either, because they're usually made of far more than just leather. And as for used masking tape and vacuum cleaner contents, these are usually contaminated with all sorts of crap you don't want in it. I usually use masking tape when painting, I'm sure a lot of people do.

"Fireplace and campfire ashes"I read somewhere that throwing ashes into a comost won't break them down any further. The fire has already broken them down as far as they will.
