nytimes.com— The Comedy Central host has turned his ordinary wrist injury into a media crusade, perhaps revealing contrasts among television's three evening news anchors along the way.

It's Charlie Gibson... and you shouldn't be quick to judge Gibson just because he's not hopping on the Colbert train. I think evening news deserves REAL NEWS not sensational bulls**t (not the charitable act but the Colbert promotion). I love Stephen, but I'm tired of his blatant self-promotion. Digg me down if you must...
Katie Couric has been losing viewers on a week to week basis. NBC used to rule the ratings with their nightly news program, and Brian Williams has not been able to maintain the audience. Charles Gibson replaced Peter Jennings with a female anchor and was introduced to the public without the gigantic wave of publicity. The public HAS taken to Gibson, and ABC made him the sole anchor of the newscast (Again, without the wave of publicity or the gigantic contract of Katie). ABC leads the ratings in a competition that has long been dominated by NBC. And people are turning to him for their news precisely because he seems serious and trustworthy, maybe not to a 16 year old kid, but to the public at large. If you want funny, check Colbert. If you want the news, check Gibson.I'm a big fan of Colbert but honestly why would I want my news anchors to be influenced by him?
So wait, the anchors won't wear flags on their lapels as a show of support for our troops (interpret as you will, support could mean bringing them home); but they'll wear a gag wrist bracelet? What a couple of tools.

No, I'm quite sure there's more people in California, New York, Washington, Oregon, and New England than there are in the idiot heartland.

Be warned: I ordered one the day they became available, and evidently I'm not going to get it until September 18.
