cognac.com — Check out the death clock in this article, it seems to change every couple minutes or so which represents another life lost to drunk driving. If you are driving drunk you are not driving towards your destination. You are chasing death and it is right around the corner.

No, it's not the same thing. Guns ARE designed to kill things, whether they be good people, bad people, animals etc. They are designed to take lives.

Yeah, yeah, it's all tragic and everything, but let's keep things in perspective:-In 2002, over 443,000 Americans (over 18 percent of all deaths) die because of smoking each year. Secondhand smoke kills about 50,000 of them.-In 2005, there were 25,848 suicides in the US.-I've seen a bit of conflict over this one, but the commonly accepted statement is that around 300,000 people die of obesity-related conditions in the US each year, and this number is on the rise. The fact is that every year, lots of people die. To single out drunk driving and emphasize it so much is unfair. I quite like KhanReaper's comment, too; he makes a very good point. Also, I see where theducks was going with his comment, that basically we should lower the drinking age to 18 so it's consistent with all our other age cut offs. If we teach responsible drinking and allow casual drinking to 18 year olds, things won't look as bleak.I'd actually be interested in seeing what age group (particularly if it's the 18-20 age group) causes the most deaths in which the drunk driver in question is the direct cause of death, not this panzy "drink-related" figure that seems to allow many other kinds of deaths.Personally, I think it's ridiculous that only in the case of drinking is the minimum age 21, while for everything else it's at most 18. I would refuse to die for a country that doesn't yet let me drink (I'm over 21 now, so it doesn't matter anymore, but still). It's inconsistent to say you're an adult in one sense and not an adult in another; you're either an adult, or you're not. Period. Oh yeah, and you're not allowed to rent a car or a hotel room if you're under 21 in most places, so going back to KhanReaper's comment, even if you wanted to sleep it off at a hotel nearby to be safe, it wouldn't be possible.
