guardian.co.uk — In the US, there are 2,270 prisoners who were sentenced as children to life without parole. They will die behind bars. Five of them - from a 21-year-old to a 70-year-old - are questioned on how do they cope?

The problem with ALL of these "Let's Pity The Felon" articles is that they never present any side other than the Defense. Yeah, most people would be found "not guilty" if all anyone ever heard was the Defense Attorney. So, a bunch of dimwits on Teh Intrawebs read the story, use all two of their functioning braincells to deduce that no Prosecution evidence ever existed, and immediately come to the brilliant conclusion that the criminal is "innocent". It's also amusing (read: sickening) how the people who write/agree with these articles always blame the victim. Apparently, owning guns is an open invitation for some 14-year-old jackass to break into your house and murder your wife with one of them. Right. As for the age of the criminals in this article: oddly enough, I (and most other people) managed to make it clear through my twenties without murdering anyone.

When I was little, I would cry when animals or people got hurt in the movies. I have something inside me called "compassion". If you don't have this, you never will. That is why people with no sense of it need to be removed from society.

It sounds like the parents should be punished much more than they are. A side effect of parents no longer being able to crack skulls is that they often abdocate all responsibility for their children's actions. I'm not advocating child abuse -- just more energetic parenting.

Actually a judge has full discretion on sentencing, it's easier to over turn however if he goes outside of guidelines. So partial credit on that response.

Its strange. If you are under 18 and get caught stealing, you are given a slap on the wrist in juvenile court. ( because you are young and didn't know what you were doing.) If you are 20 years old and try to buy alcohol. ( you can't because you are too young and don't know what you are doing. ) If your 20 and try to gamble in a casino. ( you can't because your too young to be responsible with your own money.) If your 14 and commit a senseless stupid crime in which someone is killed. ( You are tried as an adult because you were old enough to know what you were doing. ) Don't get me wrong I am all for convicting murderers but what bothers me is this pick and choose of when someone is a minor or not. There should be one legal age and that's it. You should not just be able to change that when it suits your needs.
