new.music.yahoo.com — For one week (tellingly, none managed a second week on top) each of these albums was the best-seller in America. But they didn't sustain over the long haul. None of these 25 albums has sold more than 830,000 copies over the course of its entire run.

Just goes to show the ratings are manufactured BS and they never should have been #1 in the first place. Most on the list could very well make the talentless worst albums of all time.

It should be worth mentioning that a lot of these artist on this list have a cult following which means the first few weeks artist true fans come out and buy the album after that it drops off. I agree with lokomotics that marketing has a lot to do with it also. Prince's 3121 wasn't marketed very well as a result all his cult fans immediately bought it after that no one else even knew about it.
