linfo.org — "Businesses, educational institutions, governmental agencies and other organizations around the world are converting their computer operating systems from Microsoft Windows to Linux at an increasing pace. They are likewise converting their application programs from commercial software to free software"

I'm not arguing at all that Linux is a superior choice, for a server. But as someone who has used various distros on and off for a few years now, none of them are quite ready for primetime. If it takes as much effort as windows, and lets you do the same things, then it was a zero gain effort, other then to be able to say "i did it". It needs to be either doing things you can't do on windows, or doing it in a better easier way. Sadly the reality is that you can usually do the same stuff but with great difficulty and often with tradeoffs - the gimp is no photoshop, and openoffice is just not as good as office 07.While the argument about cost is a good point for developing nations, for me I'm simply willing to pay for value. This is true when I buy a pint of haagen daaz at the supermarket. Linux needs to at LEAST be the generic ice cream. Right now it's the powdered ice cream in a bad you make at home with a kit, rock salt, ice and milk.

well, you say, 'prove them wrong!' but all he did was point out that the iphone won't work in your operating system, and you're alllllll over this thread like a fat kid on a cake. Does it work on linux? Probably not. You say that that the iphone is locked up, but it works on a Mac AND a windows machine. (I hate all apple products, so i'm no fan boy!) I like how you're all like, 'stop caring about the brand! I only focus on productivity and value!' ... I assure you, all operating systems offer such options. :)

I'm not sure I understand your part on word processing. Have you ever used Open Office? It is a fine replacement for MS Word and is even able to read and write in the .doc format.

AMS, you are my favorite troll.BTW, I thought that everybody said Safari on Windows stinks, and if you use linux you can use Konqueror, which helps form the basis of Safari.

Regarding your 3rd point - you've misunderstood his comment.
