In addition donating wearable clothes, Patagonia accepts their synthetic clothes that are unusable for recycling, and makes many polyester based garments from recycled plastic. Mountain Equipment Co-op will accept any unwanted polyester based garment and will donate the wearable, and recycle the rest.
I visited Malta in 2000--a very sacred isle--and was horrified that at that time they were still using leaded gas and nothing was recycled--not even pop cans. It was a real eye opener--and I brought a ton of stuff home in my suitcase to recycle. I live in Calgary, and we don't have as good a recycling program as Edmonton does, even though it is another city not that far away. It's a reminder to me how important it is for all of us to do what we can--to counteract what others aren't doing.

I was suprised to discover that I can recycle toothbrushes, eyeglasses, and those annoying foam packing chips! Very informative!
