That was my reason for "self-digging," too. The last few times we've had an article on here, the title and description have been subpar, so it's worth it from my perspective to write the content personally. That's to say that your submission wouldn't have been great, Mijack - just that not everyone who Diggs is a great writer :)

Here are the steps I've learned from Digg:1) Pretend to be friends with other people on Digg, form a mutual voting bloc.2) Make a headline with a s**tload of superlatives. Copy someone else's interesting headline if necessary, just be sure your voting bloc sees yours first to bring it to the fore earlier.2a) Get a few people in the bloc to make generic comments which you're certain most people will agree with early on. This will get them up to +40 diggs once the story breaks as front page news.3) Instead of linking to the story, link to your blog which *then* leads to the story. Ensure that your blog entry adds absolutely no academic/informative value whatsoever, unless you count Google AdSense or interstitial ads as value.I think that about covers it.

Dugg for being one intelligent list. But one guy I write content for on the side is a real upstream swimmer. He actually wants to find out what everybody else is doing, then have me do the opposite. It made sense when he explained it to me about keyword popularity. On my own personal blog, I have discussed niche interests like the game nethack or ASCII art, and not a day goes by that I don't see 30 searches come in for those two topics alone. They aren't big, so there's no competition for them. Cornering a bunch of niche topics (the site damninteresting.com comes to mind) can get you more readers than trying to be the first site that pops up on Google for the power keywords. But the heaviest Zen I've found is to simply write what interests myself. The motto I have is "If it wasn't fun for you to write, it won't be fun for others to read."

Man, you're picky... OK - next time, 25 items on how to reduce potential criticism from Diggers in the Digg post comments. Betcha a shiny nickel it gets Dugg :)

Ouch. Is that directed at me? I'm a lazy digger most of the time. 9 times out of 10 I'll cut and paste the blog title and then cut and paste part of the blog for the description. I'm a big SEOmoz fan and probably submit more SEOmoz digg entries than anyone who doesn't work there. Better work on my descriptions!

Why this is important is this. Unique and important content is getting buried. For instance my site broke the iTV Apple device a month before it was released or rumored. I posted on digg.com and got nothing, I shrugged my shoulders and moved on. This week I posted a story with details on iPhone, that were gasp accurate. I got a whole 10 diggs. Why? Because 100 other people posted fake pictures and garbage. So the real content needs to find a way to rise above the spam, even if it has to fight fire with fire.

Adsense is a good way for beginning bloggers to monetize their site. You can have very good content and Adsense. The two are not mutually exclusive.
