Well, start now and get as many credit cards as you can. You'll need the credit during all of the layoffs in the future so you can afford to live since unemployment doesn't pay all of the bills. You need something to fall back on when yours savings are dried out and the rent is due. Trust me. My ass has been dragged through the mud so many times. If I would have known this, I would have applied for 100+ credit cards if I could.
Dugg for making me giggle. I have NO credit cards though. I manage my money by myself, and it's only when I actually have it that I choose what to do with it. Maybe it's not the best way, but I have a horribly addictive personality and that can lead to spending sprees.
Best advice is to not get too caught up in anyone else's advice--go with what works for you, right? Unlike the author, I've been disappointed by friends and family alike, but tequila's been pretty damn consistent in its treatment of me. Nice article, nonetheless, though.
Good advice. The mistakes you make as you go along teach you what to do differently in the future. Lots of wisdom here. Buying selectively, limiting tv, spending more time with those you care about. All great things to do NOW.
I agree! I thought I was the only one who felt this way. I always start reading a Zen Habits post, and about 3 sentences in I think, Wow, this is worthless.
Mistakes in this life are inevitable. The question is, do we learn from them? Many people keeps on making exactly the same mistakes. Mistakes sometimes can be the greatest teacher, only if we learn from them. I found a very thought provoking ebook that has revolutionised the quality of my life. You can find it on this webpage: http://www.successsecretshop.com/The principles that are shared has profoundly improved the quality of my life.

I'm glad you got that. Seems like some people aren't Lewis Black fans.
