kotaku.com— Finally. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has just announced that, beginning in Spring 2009 (at least for Japan), Nintendo Wii owners will be able to download software directly to an SD card.

GHWT does this. It just doesn't technically let you run straight from the SD card. Instead it caches it and, at least according to Red Octane PR runs "seamlessly." The DLC is stored on the SD card and then, using up 200 blocks on your Wii, unfortunately, puts it on there and deletes it after you're done playing. Still if it really is seamless no one will tell the difference.
Why didn't Nintendo just pay a little more attention to their competitors and realize that 512MB isn't quite gonna cut it compared to 20GB (which is the lowest on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3). If you're going to offer your customers a download service, you better make sure they will have enough space left before the console's halfway through its lifespan.
have you bought any wiiware games and any n64 games?Well I have, and I've opted to use fceultra to play the roms I bought in cartidge form and still own, and the vc purchases I've made of other games this year because I ran out of space.Just because it didn't happen to you yet doesn't mean it isn't impossible.
I know most people are angry at this but in all honestly, this is no small fix. A significant amount of the Wii System will have to be rewritten to change this by default. Yes this was very short sighted of Nintendo to let this happen in the first place, but they realise it now. Also, in terms of Spring 09, Nintendo might be good but their developers are so magical that they can code and debug a few thousands of lines of code over night.Besides, does anyone here really use 512mb? I've used about a tenth of it, if that.

Why the hell is it going to take until the Spring? Guitar Hero 4 comes out later this month, we need this solution now.

while this is GREAT it would also be nice if they just allowed a USB hard drive to be used like an SD card
