theappleblog.com — When Apple announced their fall lineup of laptops, one thing really caught my eye. The new MacBooks can now drive a 30? display. I don?t know how they did it, but that new integrated graphics chip can now really push out the pixels like no other MacBook has.I had my 30? display plugged into my Mac Pro, but I knew when Apple?s new laptops came out.

Seems that these devs have confused 'better than' with 'looks like and has more features than'...

I gave Songbird a try...it feels like iTunes from years ago. It has a long ways to go. My problems with it is that it didn't import my album artwork that I had on iTunes and the subscriptions (podcasts) weren't imported from iTunes as well. I shouldn't have to install add-ons to get basic features that should have come with it. That is to much work for me.

iTunes is running at 70 Mb here. Just playing music, dont know about video (why would anyone use iTunes to watch videos anyways?).Although Ill trade a little memory for Songbird anyways.

I tried Songbird out last night on Mint, and I dunno. It's a nice player. I've always wanted to like Songbird. It's just that it has so much stuff that I really don't need and will never use (i.e., web browser...?). I really don't see the point of using it over Rhythmbox, which plays my music, has smart playlists, iPod support, access to two free music stores (granted they are just independent artists, nothing mainstream; though in some ways that may be a good thing), and it plays podcasts and connects to Internet radio stations. And it comes with a plugin that downloads song lyrics. All that and it still uses less than 50MB of memory.Oh, and the real nail in the coffin for me is this python script that imports all of my song ratings from iTunes to my Rhythmbox library in just a few seconds:<a class="user" href="http://code.google.com/p/itunes-to-rhythmbox-ratings/">http://code.google.com/p/itunes-to-rhythmbox-ratin ...</a>

iTunes never even held the mantle of best player. Personally I have loathed it since the first build.

Your situation sounds like an outlier, but given that, it seems like MediaMonkey is a good choice for someone in your situation.

And the benefit of using a third-party iTunes clone instead of Apple's excellent (and free) iTunes application is *what* exactly?
