This story doesn't belong on the front page. Air France is GIVING that money. It was not forced. On the other hand, the RIAA ruling was in a different country and is forced to be given. If you think Air France is evil for giving $24,000 for those deaths, why aren't you angry at yourself? You gave $0.I think Air France and everyone else (outside of digg) realises that you CANNOT put a $ value on a person's life. The $24,000 isn't an attempt to value their lives. It's just to comfort the relatives.
After talking to my wife (a law student), she says that you don't pay anything until you run through your appeals. Usually during the appeals process the judge will throw out these ungodly figures that juries award and replace them with something more reasonable. Then the court garnishes your wages for the remainder of your life or until the debt is paid. And legally speaking, you did do something to incur this debt (whether it's right or wrong). It will only screw up your debt if you can't pay your other bills because your net income is smaller now that the RIAA gets to take your cash from the top.
theres not a single song in my pc and laptop that i have bought from a store.. wonder what i would owe the RIAA ... all downloaded through limewire.. got about 3,000 songs in my collection which would amount to about 240,000,000 dollars owed.. f**k!!!
24k isn't right at all, but to compare with the 80k for illegal d/l is moronic. If any of you were the owner/artist of the music you would not like your belonging to be stolen.Just look at Bob Dylan's works that were stolen and the money he did not get. Do I think music artist make way too much money, some do. But lets face it humans are greedy, and we all take what we can get.
Another bull s**t article! If anybody can read........Air France is actually going to give a $24,000 advance, which isn't the full amount that the famillies of the dead will receive. An article like this is an easy way to get lots of free publicity...........

So you've just been killing your relatives? If you're counting your tugged swimmers you might want to get your count checked!

Yes, making decent music takes training and practice. People can be produced entirely by unskilled labor.
