webecoist.com— Once a year, tens of thousands of tourists gather in a town in Spain to hurl over one hundred tons of overripe tomatoes ... all in just one hour.

I'll reply honestly: the marginal cost for all those tomatoes is zero. Yes, the agricultural cost is null. Furthermore, these food is possibly the leftovers from supermarkets, so it might not even be apt for human consumption. Would you pay the courier costs of a flight to Africa and then the trucks to deliver rotten tomatoes to small towns? I'm also Spanish, but some things just don't make sense. It's once a year, it's a festival, just have fun!. A lot more of food is trashed every day on every city in the world. The "give it to poor people" is just plain demagoguery, sorry.
The only problem I encountered when I went last year was d'bags hurling sodden T-shirts at peoples' heads well after everything had finished.Awesome time all round though, and we got to spend some time in Valencia which is a beautiful town I probably wouldn't have visited otherwise. HIGHLY recommended!
