They aren't plugged into anything, however; they're powered solely from the magnetic fields produced by the power lines above. It's all a large art project by Richard Box, and if you're really interested in it you can order a DVD of the whole thing from him.

Its clear they aren't tangibly connected to a power source, but they are running off of the power flowing in the lines overhead, which is being redirected to the bulbs with powerful magnets, right? Otherwise they're saying the magnets are powering them with no relation to the power lines overhead, which makes NO SENSE. Nice article but functional mechanics were vague, and I don't feel like buying the DVD just to know that. Thanks.
