josiahcole.com — I’ve compiled a small list (or rant) of some very basic and fundamental rules that all webmasters must learn and respect when developing a website that needs to make actual money. This list can also be used by companies looking to hire a web development firm or to evaluate an already deployed website project.

I can't believe none of you said "Don't use a s**tty host" Cuz that's what I would have said! Hahahaha...Oh wait...

It's unfortunate people use it that way. It could be the most worthless story ever, but it's going to get a lot of diggs because of the title.I personally use the del.icio.us add-on for Firefox.

No digg. While there is really nothing special or new about most of these rants, I disagree with several of them... 4. - While I do agree that full flash sites for businesses are a mistake for many reasons, I'm still trying to figure out your reasoning behind why a shopping cart created in flash would be OK...?6. - In my opinion print designers make excellent web "designers" as many are very skilled in layout and can create something both appealing and readable, I think having a print designer do web "development" is another story, that is the part where you have to make it work correctly. And you might be surprised how effective print ads are...11. - There are several ways that you can have both text and image navigation through css (<a class="user" href="http://www.simplebits.com/notebook/2003/09/30/accessible_imagetab_rollovers.html).">http://www.simplebits.com/notebook/2003/09/30/accessible_imagetab_rollovers.html).</a> Sometimes the design calls for images to be used, and I believe this is an acceptable solution.Depending on your situation and specific demographic, many of these are acceptable. If you go to your favorite EMO band site, would you rather see animated crying trees, with a cool bloody font or bright blue text links and an arial header?

I disagree with many of this guys points and his tone.He doesn't like presenting users with choice. Period. No choice between hi-speed and lo-speed. Why not? High speed and low speed sites host different kinds of content in an attempt to sell a user. If I go to Virgi Mobiles low speed site, I might get links to all the videos that I could see on my new phone. On the high speed site, I'd have those videos playing right on my screen from the start. No choice between flash and non-flash. Flash is .... flashy, and most but not all people have it. Why not give a choice so people can still see your message, and opt out on the flash. Or better yet, choose the lo-fi version while they are at work and use the hi-fi flash-enabled version when they're at home. There's more, but honestly this is a rant not advice. And its probably given by someone who has never been in a non-comsumer position.

A great way to make money is building a list and selling them products as they trust and respect you.<a class="user" href="http://automatedlist-builder.wikidot.com/">http://automatedlist-builder.wikidot.com/</a>
