treehugger.com — This kit weighs about 2 lbs, costs $180, and will power my Macbook for 1.75 hours (1.83ghz, browsing the web and checking email via Airport Extreme, bluetooth off, screen brightness about 70%) with a little more than 5 hours of good sun.

Solio makes a $100 model for the ipod and countless other devices that has internal battery storage so you don't have to leave the ipod sitting around in the sun all day...And it's actually laid out in a functional pattern so you don't have yards of solar panels in a row.<a class="user" href="http://www.solio.com/v2/shop/shop2_cat.php?catid=1">http://www.solio.com/v2/shop/shop2_cat.php?catid=1</a>

Haven't you seen that show Jericho? After the nukes take out the power grid, gadgets like this to continue operating off-grid will be worth their weight in gold. That or if you go camping and want to continue using your iPod without spending a small fortune in extra battery packs.

Or... you could just buy a new battery and swap between the two batteries?

There are two pictured in the article. The girl has the 6w unit, but the folded one underneath is the unit referred to in the original article. <a class="user" href="http://blogs.experience.com/Patrick/2007/01/portable-solar-power-for-1_116769220143696495.html">http://blogs.experience.com/Patrick/2007/01/portable-solar-power-for-1_116769220143696495.html</a>
