It's a good tech article on Digg. This is rare enough that I'll take what I can get. Beggars can't be choosers and all that.

Just wait until people find out that their 32 core computer doesn't perform any faster than their 16 core one. I'm just not banking on the fact that software will keep up as fast as hardware when it comes to the multi-core issue.

Windows 7 really is a big deal but I doubt it's technologies will make any real headway for years to come. There is a reason why Vista took so long and it's mainly because Microsoft is committed to the platform for several versions to come.

The article touches on a topic that I think will change many things. The changing memory hierarchy: http://www.pixelbeat.org/docs/memory_hierarchy/I'm not sure it will change everything though :)

When software is actually properly written for many cores, it will take advantage of any number of cores. Not like today when some games are written for two or four cores, but won't take advantage of eight.I wrote a threaded Gaussian Elimination implementation a few years ago, and it would take advantage of any number of cores up to the number of equations in the system. For large systems of equations, it could have used loads of cores.
