I don't know about all these other programs listed but GIMP is pretty damn good. For home users and even some professionals GIMP will do everything you need and then some.
It costs about 600 bucks, which for a pro is nothing since even free-lancers make 500 for a decent photo / composition. For the average person gimp or *cough*.
GIMP is probably the best free alternative, but it has a long way to go before its as good as Photoshop. The rest of the programs on this list all look about 10 years behind Photoshop and GIMP.
