There are few signs actually pointing to a recession besides people who do not actually have business degrees talking about it. The US economy is still at record highs, but has gone into uncharted ares with the lending issues and the over inflated housing bubble bursting. Despite the issues with sub-prime lending and over priced houses, yet over all there homes are still being bought & sold at growth. In short now is actually the time to buy/invest.
