searchengineland.com — Google seems to have had a bad week, with some recent negative publicity making it seem like the tipping point of Google becoming the big bad company they don't want to be happening -- at least perhaps in the eyes of many opinion makers on the web

Since Google has become a major player a lot of people, especially journalists, have been trying to make hay out of every slip-up. Mistakes. lawsuits, etc.are unavoidable with any large corporation. The fact remains, it is the best search engine not only because of its results but also because of its fast-loading home page and unobtrusive ads. Its foolish to blame Google because small retailers don't rank as high or because there are anti-Semites on the Web. The article complains about censorship in one case (anti-Scientology) and argues for it in another (anti-Semitism). Whatever you do someone will always bitch about something.

This is nothing but a weak attempt by Danny Sullivan to showcase his 'articles' and to drive traffic to his new site. Of course, he fails to answer the most important question: is he being forced to use Google and any of its services? No, he is not being forced. If he truly believes that Google has tipped the scales into the evil side, then perhaps he should point out some alternatives to Google? As to the 'hoopla' around the "Tip" reminds of the vocal outcry from a few select so-called 'important' bloggers about AutoLink (you know the user-activated feature in Google Toolbar that let you link addresses, ISBN and VINs in a webpage to Google Maps, etc). There was a howl of protest from these bloggers. Fortunately, theses bloggers were out-of-touch with the average user. There is nothing 'evil' with Google promoting it's own services or products.

A guy I know that works at Google has been talking about "good evil" vs. "bad evil" lately.

Care to point out how then? Are you going to elaborate how my life should come to a screeching halt as I stare up at the google offices with a sense of impendng doom as the imaginary scales slowly tip towards evil because one of the founders threw paper into the plastics recycling bin? Maybe youll explain how much damage was done to the very fabric of moral society when Google followed the law and complied with DMCA requests? Will you lead me upon a crusade against these wretches who so heartlessly earn advertising revenue in exchange for providing a free service that has enhanced the content-based web?

The moment you start transacting cash you are evil... why? ... because you cannot keep everyone happy, and for every little bit of cash somebody spends they feel then have a right to pull push and expect a million pounds worth of service for every pound they spend... they "turned evil" a long time ago for many of your over expecting and under appreciating customers.
