Even a written intent holds little validity, most high school seniors are under the age of 18, yes depending on when they are born some are of legal age to enter a binding agreement, but if the prospect is under the age of 18, the contract is not enforceable, thus most letter intent signings is used of posturing. Not exactly sure what happens if the prospect is under 18 has a parent sign the letter as well, and how a breech is dealt with.
