Agreed. As a VectorLinux user myself, I'm in a position I don't often find myself in here on DIGG-island: Being very knowledgeable about a topic. But, given this unique situation, it's astounding to see how blatantly uninformed us DIGGers can be, and still run our mouths like we've got all the answers. Oh, and if you are looking for more than a reliable, more-than-capable, daily-use computer, don't buy the $139 box - MadTux/VL are offering a jacked-up version as well. For $269 you get this: http://store.madtux.org/product_info.php?cPath=57&products_id=310
queenstarsha -That's false. I just looked on ebay, and there are a bunch of people selling C7 boards for MSRP, and one sketchy guy selling a C7 board with no reserve - it's at $30 with six days left. Past auctions with zero bids are irrelevant - people frequently don't bother to bid on reserve auctions or auctions with sketchy sellers. If you had a reference of a C7 board actually selling for less than $100, that would be very interesting.
Hey it's a right out of the box door stop! If they can't even offer SATA, it's junk. In 2 years I won't be able to turn it into a decent file server. Close, but no cigar.
Hello my name is Darrell one of the founders of Vector Linux (1998). There are millions of folks who need a low cost entry level machine. They cannot afford to do otherwise. Knowledge is power; we are trying to share it to everyone, regardless of financial or technical status. It absolutely amazes me that you would criticize this endeavour as you have, while offering no alternate solution, other than to build your own or this or that. The entry level user will not know how to do any of that, and you should know that, maybe you don’t remember your first experience with your first computer! To think that a new user would be able to understand how to build their own box is just stupid, really stupid. If they went to eBay what would they buy? They do not know what all the gobbly gook is about, so they end up ripped off with no warranty, no support and recess back into their state of non-computing.We offer complete warranty and support. Vector Linux is legendary for a helpful, kind and fast response forum. So please think of the user who wants to begin computing, in a safe and supportive environment, not you’re selves or your tech savvy, or your strait BS.So please get off your high horses and come up with a solution that would be worth reading about, help us or ……..

Nobody's going to charge only 50 bucks to install and properly configure Linux unless you throw in two six packs and a night's worth of sex.
