The point of a thin 12 inch Macbook WON'T be gaming (the screen's only 12 inches diagonal!!), but more along the lines of ultra compact/portable computing... in other words, expect something like the intel 950 series for graphics

maybe a cooler-running flash RAM Hard Drive? <a class="user" href="http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/09/20/conventional_hard_drive_obsoletism_uk/">http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/09/20/conventional_hard_drive_obsoletism_uk/</a>

I beg to differ. The MacBook is missing the enhanced graphics card that was present in the 12" Powerbooks. So a 12" MacBook Pro with a graphics card better than the integrated Intel chip they have in the standard MacBook would be a welcome addition. I wonder what sort of resolution a 12" MacBook Pro would carry. If I had one gripe about my 12" Powerbook, it would be the 1024x768 resolution.

Can you boy's say Apple TABLET PC. The 12" form factor Macbook would be the best way to test the waters on a tablet for students and healthcare workers. A close relative is a VERY successful Apple developer and claims there are hints of this type of input option in some of the new code. We were talking about this a few weeks ago, so the new rumor on the web is 100% believable to me.

How did you guess I was 8?

No, it would not be more accurate to say it replaces the 12" iBook G4.The iBook didn't have video mirroring, didn't have a DVD writer. No, the 950 isn't a good graphics chip. The one in the 12" PB G4 wasn't either. It didn't even support Quartz Extreme, the Macbook does.I just replaced my 12" PB G4 with a (Core2Duo) Black Macbook. If you had, you wouldn't be niggling about stuff either. The Macbook is so much faster in every way.

The above comment is incorrect. The 12" Powerbook had a Nvidia Geforce FX5200-GO with 64MB dedicated video memory and it *did* support Quartz Extreme and Core Image.

That was before integrated graphics could do ANYTHING of use... the Intel 950 series isn't so bad. Great for anything short of intense gaming. My Mac Mini handles WoW just fine for me. That's all we really want a graphics chip for anyhow right?
