networkworld.com — From the Space Academy for Adults to next month's Comic-Con 2009 in sunny San Diego or a Lord of the Rings movie location tour in New Zealand, there are plenty of vacation opportunities for those who believe -- oh, say a few days of live action role-playing games -- beats a week at the beach.

I caught a live show of "They Might Be Giants" at the Equestrian Center in Marlboro, Maryland (the first "HFStival") and they really impressed me. I was surprized to find they are really great musicians.

I think you also forgot to mention all the computer trade shows around the world. I remember hearing a hilarious story years ago about a dating agency that tried to organize a meet and greet for women and all the young dot com millionaires in Silicon Valley. Little did the organizers know that they chose a terrible day-- same day as a Microsoft convention. Poor attendance at the meet and greet, needless to say!
