Streaming, rather than transcoding and placing on external drives, allows you to access the content from anywhere on the network, without having to physically move any hardware. You can also access that content on multiple devices simultaneously. Seeing as how the 360's price is now fairly comparable to that of a decent media extender, there is great potential for multiple devices on one network.
Then get broadband and shut the f**k up you little bitch. You're ruining everyones games with your bulls**t connection anyway. My buddy plays COD3 quite a bit on dial up.
The wireless bridging is perfect if you have moved house (or having internet problems) and your neighbour allows you to borrow their wireless connecion temporarily while you sort your own internet connection. Link you laptop up wireless as pointed out, Share internet connection so your laptop dishes out ip addresses. Just saves you having to buy a very expensive microsoft wireless adaptor for the interrim period. Worked a dream for me being an addict of xbox live.

Wireless bridges aren't cheap: http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=wireless+br ...Price of a GL or more. And a linksys isn't the only router that works with custom firmwares. It makes way more sense to get a router that supports a custom firmware that can operate in client mode. Much more utility for the same price or cheaper.
