computer.howstuffworks.com — Computer viruses can be a nightmare. Some can wipe out the information on a hard drive, tie up traffic on a computer network for hours, turn an innocent machine into a zombie and replicate and send themselves to other computers. Let's take a look at 10 of the worst computer viruses to cripple a computer system.

I think it was called the blaster virus.I wonder why it isn't on the list.It did something to the generic rpc or something, i am not really sure about that.Anyway it made some computers reboot almost as soon as it got in windows. Also when people just formatted their hard drive the virus remained and settled in the master boot record.

f**k you for the "that lot" comment!Back to the subject at hand...I remember the NIMDA virus well, I was in a Computer lad attending an CCNA/networking class when it hit.It was AWESOME, A lab filled with the nerdiest of nerds. (Do you even use that word anymore?) We were talking about security of all things, when suddenly after visiting Microsoft's own website, one of the students noticed an virus alert.Over the next five minutes 7 computers in the room had already been infected, at this point everyone in the room was running around to each of the newest infected computers. "I got one over here." and "Oop, Mine too."The teacher was so excited, lol, It is on very rare occasion that you get to witness the spread of a computer virus in such a way. I remember that we figured out that it came from one of Microsoft's own network admin related websites after purposely infecting one of the computers. I also remember that we all realized that its name was "Admin" backwards and that it had started sending emails out from infected computers.I remember us all laughing about it, saying that it must have been some pissed off IT guys from Microsoft. It was a very memorable experience.
