thriftymommy.com — "I am a mosquito magnet. If there is one around, it will find me. This past week while I was at camp, many mosquitos found me. I’ve done a little research and found some inexpensive ways that you can fight off mosquitoes."

Skin so soft seems to work on Maryland mossy's.I'm just saying

This article is wrong. While the advice about minimizing standing water around your house is spot on, mosquitoes are not attracted to "scent" – they are attracted to the CO2 in your breath and your body heat. Contrary to what Avon would have you think, there is *absolutely no* scientific evidence to support the claim that Skin So Soft has any repellant effect whatsoever on mosquitoes. DEET is just about the only thing out there proven to stop the buggers, and it's known to be perfectly safe when used as directed. So wear long sleeves and put on something with DEET. That's all you have to do.

Great advice if you're concerned primarily about how you smell, but this discussion is about stopping mosquitoes. For which purpose the chemicals in tea tree oil are absolutely useless.

"never been proven to have any harmful side effects"... other than nearly wiping out the bald eagle population in the US. Natural solutions like bat colonies or CO2 emission traps are far less destructive than filling the air with toxins. Myopic approaches like this actually do more to destroy predators of mosquitoes than mosquitoes themselves. (Don't take my word for it: listen to this science-type PhD guy. http://www.batcon.org/bhresearcher/bv8n2-4.html )

Eat a lot of spicy food - especially Thai chiles. Seriously, it works.

wow, such Vitriol against tree-huggers.You should thank them for helping to protect us all from birth defects. I suppose you think that the rivers that America used to have that were covered in foam is a Hippy myth.Man, can't some people drink the cool-aid 24/7/365.

I used to use Skin So Soft on my cat like a flea shampoo. These days I have problems with argentine ants around the house and I've discovered that spraying detergent kills them on contact and if I can find the nest and blast it then that gets them pretty well. I use a concentrated, biodegradeable detergent and put some in a liquid fertilizer sprayer and spray it around, and surprizingly enough, this kills a lot of small insects on contact (but has no residual killing power after it drys). I suspect that spraying this around the house would kill mosquitos too as they aren't that hard to kill if you can find them. I used to have a big 400 gallon aquarium on the back patio, and every morning there would be scads of mosquitos around it, I would vacuum them up out of the air (they were that thick). Anyway, since I've been spraying my diluted detergent around the patios the the no-see-ums have gotten rather rare and I don't get itchy after going out walking around my plants. So I'm sure that the detergent is killing off a lot or small insects that live on the plants. I spray my strawberry plants with the diluted liquid detergent too, it kills all the little pests on contacts and the plants seem to love it, it's like a fertilizer for them, so I kill two birds with one stone, I fertilize the plants and kill the little pests at the same time. And it's pretty much non-toxic to bigger critters. The only downside is that it has no lasting killing power and so you may need to do it rather often, but you can work it into your watering & weeding schedule.

MosquitoPatch is a revolutionary concept in mosquito bite protection. It combines the latest technology in trans-dermal delivery and the effective, all natural, safe mosquito bite protection of thiamine, vitamin B1.
With the MosquitoPatch you can rest assured that you and your family are actually being protected from mosquito bites. There are many companies that advertise mosquito repellent products that do not really work. This is dangerous because mosquitoes carry many, sometimes fatal, diseases such as, malaria, West Nile virus, dengue, and yellow fever.
