My factory PC came partitioned into two parts, the WinXP installed 10GB and 200GB. Got frustrated every time I would install programs on the 10GB. But with Parted Magic, everything was fixed easy and simple without losing data. I recommend Parted Magic.
I love INX:http://inx.maincontent.net/Another Ubuntu-based distro, I'm afraid, but it's still handy. It's basically a command-line only distro that works as a proof of concept to show you just how much can actually be done from the CLI (including surf the web graphically, and watch videos!), and to teach you more about using the command line. I highly recommend that anyone who wants to learn more about using the shell download a copy and run it as a live cd.I also like Nubuntu (similar to Backtrack, it's a security oriented distro).

Super grub disk. I downloaded the cd iso and burned it, and it turned out I got a chance to try it out a few weeks later. It worked as advertised, nearly automagical.http://www.supergrubdisk.org/wiki/Boot_Problems
