Yes, hyponautremia, it's all the rage in running circles. One big problem is that everyone naturally assumes you are dehydrated because you fell over from running, so they give you more water. A couple of people have died from it.Skydive on a clown. Heh.

Where are the top 10 reasons to breathe more air?Or the top ten reasons not to drink poison?
novasourceSep 11, 2006
Marked as inaccurate. This is bogus. You don't need to drink "more" than "enough," and the vast majority have a magic device that tells us when we need more: thirst. If you are thirsty, drink. If you aren't, don't.

@sinfreeThe jury is still out on pop causing more kidney stones. Your best bet is avoiding sodium and, yes, drinking a lot more water. For stones it's more the water that comes out not what goes in. Sodium tends to make you pass more water through the intestines then the kidneys.I've had 7 kidney stones. 5 in the last year. I'm now stone free and I'm drinking a lot of extra water. I also upped my caffeine intake since that runs a bit more water through the kidneys. As with all things stone related Your Mileage May Vary.

I read a snopes article about something similar to this just the other day: http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp

"bottled water is actually bad for you in large amounts; becuase it is purified it tends to rob your body of minerals that you normally get from tap."Actually there's quite a bit of evidence to show that bottled water is little purer than tap water, which is part of what makes it such a scam. Then there's the entertaining marketing BS: "Enhanced with minerals for a pure, fresh taste!" Hmm, made less pure for a pure taste. Right...

So, basically you're saying that Navy Seals don't need to breathe?
wvdavisSep 12, 2006
My comment said "(on most places on the earths surface)". The operative word here is *surface*. And no, I am not saying that Navy Seals don't need to breath, this is why they use scuba or CCRs (Closed Circuit Re-breathers) when diving (that would be under water). Anyway, there is nothing in any of my comments mentioned Seals, so how you got that I have no idea.

@ImaLamer, It doesn't matter how much water you drink. In your case you drink zero, nada, zippo. Big deal. The point is, if you failed to drink more water than you are currently drinking, would you die? Of course not. Whatever you've been doing up to now has kept you alive and I'll bet it'll keep working for you.Another way to look at it is that you actually drink LOTS of water. It just has some soluble nutrients dissolved in it, like sugar, caffeine, FD&C Yellow #5, dihydro-mono-thingamabobs, and whatever God chooses to put in fruit.About your point about getting water from food, did you know that traditional Indian cooking was done with no water? Their pots were designed to let no moisture out because water was frequently scarce, and they had to maximize the amount they got from food itself.

Man, that was really informative! Now if only they'd write an article called "Why Breathing is Good For You", I'd be safer as a human being.

Modern lifestyle makes people dependant on all sorts of pleasing and taste-enhancing beverages that are commercially manufactured. However, they cannot be a substitute for water. Just take a look at this study about the benefits of water:http://www.myproductalert.com/drink-to-your-health ...
