And with some help, the Linux operating system can be the king of networking, in both ease of use and security.

I am so tired of all this crap about Linux. The blatant disregard for humanity - this isn't 4chan! DIGG, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

Or the developers could implement NETBIOS as default like Windows so you don't have to muck around with the "hosts file" to define your computers. You set a computer name when the computer is setup, and that's that. HOSTS files are terribly inefficient, this is why we have DNS. But since not everyone is going to want to or is capable of setting up a local DNS server, auto negotiation of host names in a LAN is the better solution. The reason why I say this is because say you have 4 computers in your house. You would have to go to each of these machines and modify their hosts files to find eachother. Any time a host needs to be added or changed, you need to modify this file on every computer.

To demonstrate how easy it is? To encourage more people to explore the operating system and it's associated tools?Honestly this list is more for advanced users than your typical home user.

I remember networking with redhat 4.0 Now that was a bitch with the cheap hardware I had at the time. The only trouble I've had lately is getting my wireless card to work with ubuntu. Sadly I'm getting old and my mind aint as sharp as it used to be. I'm just going to have to wait untill it get's better.
