premiere.com— I was thinking the same thing when Valkyrie came out. Yes, there's this huge plot to kill Hitler.....but.... don't we already know the outcome to that?

How about U571? Another Hollywood re-write of history, but ask an American today who captured the Enigma machine and guess what answer you'll get.The film's plot is partly based on real events, it was British personnel from HMS Bulldog who first captured a naval Enigma machine, from U-110 in the North Atlantic May 1941, before the United States entered the war. The real U-571 was never involved in any such events, was not captured, and was in fact sunk in January 1944, off Ireland, by a Short Sunderland flying boat from No. 461 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force.
Or what about opera, where it actually helps if you know the entire story beforehand. They even give it to you to read (the libretto).Or like an amusement park. When you want to go on a ride again, it's not because of the ending, but because of the middle.

For the record, Titanic was the biggest surprise ending I've ever seen. Forget Fight Club or the Usual Suspects. I didn't see that Iceberg coming!
