finance.yahoo.com — Chances are it's the price of gas, not auto insurance, that's driving you to the poor house. But if you want to cut your auto insurance premiums to the bone, stay away from small, fast cars. Contrary to the idea that smaller cars can help you avoid crashes, the data shows that small cars get into more accidents...

What's funny is that the 2nd most expensive, the Subaru WRX and the 4th least expensive, the Subaru Outback are both available with the same 2.5L Turbo charged engine. Go figure!!

Here in the UK, credit history does not have an influence on your car insurance premium. Usually you can pay on a monthly basis, but they will then charge a set interest rate for the year. (Basically you take out a loan for a year). Defaulting on your monthly payments can result in cancellation of your insurance.

No I'm not wrong! Replacing a dent in a door on a murcielago would cost more then repairing both car's in a regular accident! Chances of crashing a lambo are higher per miles then other kind of car's because a lot of people can't handle 500 hp engines. And last but not least, do you know how many people would envy you? That makes a far greater chance of vandalism and believe me, the paint on a lambo cost a few thousand, tires are around 800$ each, not including the mag's...

Try getting information like this from your insurance agent before buying a car... I found it impossible to get an answer for the simple question of "What car will cost me the least to insure?" My agent kept responding by asking "what car did I want to buy?" Drove me nuts trying to figure this out. Ultimately I decided not to buy a new car... yet, and I'm thinking of firing my insurance agent.

lester: Most policies are paid over 6-8 months. So he's only paying $200ish/mt more than you.I lucked out. My policy was $4400 / yr with one accident and one ticket over 4 years....with a Honda Accord of all things. Then MA decided to "deregulate" and it dropped to 2 grand.I'm jealous of my family in KS who pays $300/yr for full-blown coverage.

"They tend to be driven by people who are not as likely to speed or drive recklessly," he says. This statement really pisses me off. I just bought a new car and, because it's inexpensive and generally driven by people in their late teens and early twenties, I'm paying a relatively high insurance rate. I'm paying way less than those tools do but still more than I would for a more expensive vehicle. Liability rates should be based on the driver's history and, if collision coverage is included, the cost of repairing the vehicle. If theft coverage is included, then the crime stats of the neighborhood and popularity of the car should be a factor as well. But to make people pay extra for liability based on the driving habits of other people who own the car is asinine. If I had no driving history, fine. Charge me more because I'm an unknown. But, with a spotless record and [cough][cough] years licensed to drive multiple classes of vehicles, there's no legitimate reason to charge me more because I happened to pick a "kid's" car.
