A number of scenes from the first movie were indeed shot in an abandoned amusement park (the Mimura scenes, some of the Mitsuko scenes)--I'm not sure if it's one of those in the article, though.And the second movie was indeed shot in an abandoned coal mining town in Nagasaki, though the second movie was nowhere near awesome.
